The Consular Section at the Ghana High
Commission started operations on 3rd
December, 2008. It is thus still developing
the services it provides to the public.
Presently, it provides three main consular
services, namely: visas, passports and
authentication of documents.
VISAS
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR GHANA

All visitors entering Ghana must have valid
entry visas or entry permits issued by a
Ghana Diplomatic Mission or visa issued by a
mandated authority. ECOWAS nationals and
nationals of countries with which Ghana has
specific bilateral agreements are exempted.
CONDITIONS FOR THE ISSUE OF VISA
(1) Visas may be granted to
personnel of International Organizations,
visitors for tourism, business, transit or
study.
(2) Visas may be granted
for single or multiple entries.
(3) They are valid for
three or six months and must be utilized
within the period of issue.
(4) Visitors travelling on
business are required to provide evidence of
that fact from their firm, whilst those
travelling at invitation of Ghanaian
nationals or institutions would also be
requested to provide a letter of invitation
from their hosts.
(5) Visitors must have a
return ticket or an onward ticket to a
country for which they have admission. They
may also be required to show proof of
sufficient funds for their stay in the
country.
(6) Emergency visas may be
issued at entry points for travelers
arriving from countries where there is no
Ghanaian Diplomatic Mission or Consular
Office. Such applications must however be
authorized through the Director of the
Immigration Service by their hosts.
(7) Applications for
further extension of visas must be made to
the Director of Immigration
(8) Persons who enter the
country as visitors are not allowed to take
up employment
(9) Professionals (doctors,
lawyers, nurses etc) are required to provide
particulars and qualifications so their
eligibility for registration to work in
Ghana can be determined.
THE UNDERMENTIONED CATEGORIES ARE
PROHIBITED IMMIGRANTS
(1) A person of unsound
mind on the advice of a medical professional
(2) A person considered to
be a security risk
(3) A person against whom
there is a deportation order in force
(4) A person who has been
sentenced in a foreign country for
extradition
INOCULATIONS – Valid
certificate of inoculation against Yellow
Fever will be inspected at point of entry.
HOW TO APPLY
(1) Applicants must fill in
the visa application form in Quadruplicate
and in capitals
(2) The completed form must
be submitted together with the applicant’s
passport and four recent passport-sized
pictures.
(3) The application takes a
maximum of ten (10) days to process.

Multiple Entry - US$100.00
Express Single Entry - US$70.00
Express Multiple Entry - US$120.00

Under Ghanaian Visa Regulations, the
following category of persons are exempted
from entry visas to Ghana:
(1) Citizens of ECOWAS
Countries (for a period of not more than 90
days)
(2) Nationals of the
following countries
- Kenya
- Zimbabwe
- Egypt
- Singapore
- Hong Kong Specialized Administrative Area
- Mauritius
(3) Holders of Cuban
diplomatic passports
(4) Holders of German
diplomatic passports
(5) Holders of passports of
Regional Economic Communities in Africa and
the African Economic Community
(6) Holders of Brazilian
diplomatic and service passports
PASSPORTS
Applicants for Ghanaian passports must be
citizens of Ghana by birth or by
naturalization. Documentary evidence must be
provided in support of any claims.
• Lost, stolen
or missing passports
Applicants must produce a Police Report, a
birth certificate and an affidavit as proof.
• Change of
Name
This must be supported by duly authenticated
documents such as deed polls, statutory
declarations, marriage/divorce certificates
or gazettes
• Passport

STATUTORY FEES
• New Passports/Renewals - US$120.00
Lost/damaged/passports - US$240.00
• PAYMENT METHODS:-
Payment must be made in cash at the Ghana
High Commission.
Since the High Commission has not started
issuing passports, passports are still
processed by the High Commission in
Zimbabwe. The applicant therefore has to
fill the form, attach all appropriate
documentation, and post it to the Ghana High
Commission in Zimbabwe. It should be
accompanied by a self addressed prepaid DHL
envelope to enable it be posted back.
The form should also be accompanied by four
(4) passport sized photographs (29mm by
39mm).
AUTHENTICATION OF DOCUMENTS
Documents issued by the appropriate judicial
authorities such as birth certificate,
affidavits, Police criminal record
certificates etc can be authenticated at the
High Commission in Lusaka. The documents
however, should be first certified at the
Legal and Consular Bureau, Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration,
Accra, Ghana.
